Check out this Portable CNC in a Box (translated into English). If you ever wanted to setup a CNC machine in a mall on the weekend at a small booth this would be the ideal machine for that. Just think of all the custom trinkets you could make with it. Best of all the steam punk controller which reminds me of the Wiimote remote would make it look like you were doing more work than just jogging the bit into the start position. At a quick glance it may look like a simple plywood box that holds a milling machine. With a closer look you can see that there is a monitor built into one of the sides, all of the motor controls are built into another section and finally all of the computer electronics are also crammed into the case.

It looks awesome although you can tell the owner hasn’t made any chips with it yet (metal or plastic – whatever he’s going to mill). I betcha his next move will be to replace the 4 sides removed on the last picture with plexi panels or something like that so he can observe it work but catch the chips flying. It’s awesome work, regardless – and it’s not just any CNC milling machine either – it’s 4-axis CNC. Well done!
By the way, it is a real shame I cannot read Italian because his latest project which appears to be a conversion of regular sewing machine into an embroidery one – is a very interesting topic, at least to me personally. Every time I look at my wife’s embroidery machine, I think of a CNC router, only in a cute white package. I am not sure the issue of tying up end stitches is resolvable using a regular sewing machine but perhaps some types of embroidery can really be done using a CNC attachment like that. I am very interested in learning what comes out of that project, too!
