If you haven’t listened to the latest Amp Hour (episode #126) you may not have heard about this $269 High Speed Automatic Pick and Place Machine. I have very little information on it since I can’t read Chinese, the videos demo the system quite well though. For such a small machine it sure looks impressive, the tiny screen looks to have a ton of very usable information although most of it looks to be Chinese. I did see a language switch so there might be an English version available. The price on this system sounds to good to be true though, I would love to hear from someone that can read Chinese if there are any hidden charges that bring this price up significantly. UPDATE: The title has been updated to reflect the actual USD price. For those who saw the original price listed, sorry about that. I did a quick Google conversion which converted it from the Japanese Yen. I didn’t realize until now that the Chinese and Japanese use the same currency symbol. Thanks to the commenters below for catching this pricing error. So the price isn’t as jaw dropping as I thought but it is still quite tempting, I can see this as a way for a basement hobbyist to start cranking out some production type quantities in no time. A solder paste station, a skillet or converted toaster oven along with this pick and place could get some boards cranking with just one person! The pictures look impressive but make sure you have a look at some of the videos.

Not $269, $3657. Two heads, that many feeders, and that placement rate for under $300? C’mon. Even $3600 is a good deal.

The price is at least 22800 RMB (Chinese Yuan), which is more like USD $3650… still a really interesting piece of kit, though.

22800.00 Chinese Yuan equals 3658.49 US Dollar
Other than that, its a pretty spiffy machine.

I think more like $3500
The price is in RMB, not Yen

Hi Steve,
I just tried them and thought the same thing. It did start after about a minute of buffering though.
You can see all of the videos here directly (also very slow though).

Well, $3657 puts pick-n-place squarely within the realm of DIY! My wife uses a $8,500+ embroidery sewing machine and I would not feel any guilt getting myself a pick-n-place next Christmas! Seriously though, I haven’t been shopping for any soldering or repair/replace equipment in almost 15 years and have just recently looked at what’s available out there ’cause I feel like I’m missing some of the newer SMD tools. Here is my impression: Thank you, thank you, thank you hard working people of the People’s Republic of China!!! For less than $3000 I can now fully equip my home lab with everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) needed for building anew or repairing any piece of electronics, SMD or through-hole: soldering station, reflow oven, vacuum tools, PCB holders, IR preheaters etc. Turns out, for $3657 more I can start making small batches, too. This is mind blowing and liberating. 15 years ago I would have to pay (and I never would for personal use for sure) more than I would spend on putting my kids through college. And I would have not even matched my wife’s sewing machine budget yet!
This is good new, Alan, thanks for posting this.
Merry Christmas!
