If your first remote control car was like mine it has a single button on it. The car would drive straight forward and reverse and turn when the button was pressed. It was a simple and effective design. This Dynamo Robot uses a similar method of steering. Best of all no batteries are needed! The power to drive the toy forward and in reverse comes from a hacked servo motor which outputs a DC voltage when the servo is rotated and the DC voltage reverses polarity when the servo is turned in reverse. This is handy since DC motors reverse their direction when the DC voltage is reversed making for a simple power source/steering control.

Hmm I wouldn’t say ‘best of all’ no batteries needed – why would you want it linked up to the control by a cable? Defeats the point of remote control!

Pretty cool. I would be quite instructive for a little kid to see that the force from his hand can be transmitted through 2 tiny wires like this. Still feels a bit like magic to me
