Breadboard Tips and Tricks

Our friend Daniel Garcia from Proto Stack has come up with a bunch of Breadboard Tips and Tricks that could make your life a bit easier next time you are breadboarding a project. The one shown here is a nice tip where you use pin headers to allow the use of multi pin devices that could otherwise never be connected to a breadboard. I do the same thing with some common value pots and small relays. There is another tip that will probably save you a few hours over the years and a few grey hairs. That is a way to solve the center disconnected positive and negative rails.

    I use the pins from wire wrap sockets for bread board stuff. The .025″ square post is perfect. And you can insert stuff (wire) into to the sockets. If you’re crafty, you can actually remove the “machined insert” from that pin, and insert much larger “stuff” like power resistors etc…

    If you want to get really crafty, you can also use the now empty socket to insert components, and built really small, tight projects. I built a voltage multiplier that works really well and looks pretty sharp.

    Other than that, I’d stick to 22AWG copper wire.

    The “header pin strips” (similar to those shown), but again, in the .025″ square posts also come in really, really handy.

    Those are great for things like push buttons, large resistors, connectors etc… Never jam anything into a bread board.

    I like it.

    I’d also like to point out that an SD card will fit snugly and work nicely in a regular .1″ card-edge connector, without any modification. Old floppy/MFM cables are perfect.

    Love it, since it uses a VERY inexpensive means to get an micro SD slot into the your project.
    Wouldn’t mind seeing your voltage multiplier George. Do you think you might post that Alan, if George has it documented?
