Jet Engine Cooling Technology used in new LED Bulb

Take a look at this neat prototype GE Light Bulb which uses Jet Engine Cooling Technology. Sometimes we see the use of some obscure technology just for the sake of adding some buzz words to the packaging. I don’t think that is the case here, this LED bulb can put out a serious amount of light but with the new cooling method it can dissipate the heat generated efficiently.

How GE’s dual cool jets technology works
GE dual cool jets are very small micro-fluidic bellows type devices that provide high-velocity jets of air, which impinge on the LED heat sink. These jets of air increase the heat transfer rate to more than ten times that of natural convection. The improved cooling enables LED operation at high drive currents without losses in efficiency or lifetime. For a given lumen output, the dual cool jets’ improved thermal management reduces the necessary LED chip count. This, in turn, can dramatically lower the cost of the lamp. In addition to performance and cost advantages, this cooling technology enables reductions in LED lamp size and weight. “

    This is bullshit. There is nothing special about this light. GE probably bought parts from Nuventix (http://www.nuventix.com/) and glued them on some LEDs. I’m surprised Alan fell for the marketing bullshit.

    LED lights are for engineers who went to crappy state schools. Real engineers build embedded systems, life saving medical devices, and fast cars.

    REAL engineers build cars which save fuel and don’t need oldfashioned fossil fuel. crappy engineers who live in the past only try to make cars fast…

    I can’t for the life of me understand why that Rabbit was carrying on about real engineers. Dude get an implant and leave the rest of us to engineer the products that we are employed to develop. You must have one small gadget to be so threatened by LED cooling! HA HA HA
    Last insult that i have is that only a person who talks about it and berates the rest of the hard working engineers out there really cant do what he says he can. Those who can’t; Teach. Those who can’t teach just spend all of their time putting everyone else down or become consultants.

    If this tech can do what it says, then what is the reliability of the cooling system? If that is not worth a stamp, then there is no point putting on a device that will be good for 60,000+ hours.

    Dude i am a real engineer and i will put my resume against yours any day you want.
