I wish I had more experience with random tech, I feel like a lot of these contests are tough unless you’ve seen the item before.

You are right, some of the items are quite hard to guess unless you have seen something like it before but there will always be a varying level of difficulty so that everyone have a chance to enter. Last week I was going for easy, this one I was trying for medium difficulty.
