The prize this week is a MSP430 Launch Pad that we featured last month, I got the one I ordered last week and it looks great. I haven’t had any time to check it out yet but I have a few project ideas for it. This contest will run for one week (July 31 – August 6, 2010) . Ending time is based on central standard time. To enter, identify the item pictured above and give an example of what can be done with it.

Please do not give the answer in the comments.

Send an email to contest @ hackedgadgets.com with “Name the Thing Contest” as the subject, and the message body consisting of:

  • The name of the item in the above picture
  • An example of what the item pictured above can be used for

The winner will be chosen at random from all of the correct entries.

  1. Jordan Says:

I just bought a couple of these and I am using one right now (the mystery item, not the TI LaunchPad).

  2. Alex Says:

Might be a lot of responses for this one.

  3. Haku Says:

I bought a couple of the ‘mystery item’s earlier this year out of curiosity, always like getting new electronic things to tinker with, but haven’t come up with any meaningful ideas for them.

When this contest is over, a piece on various projects involving the ‘mystery item’ would most welcome.

  4. Jesse Says:

I’ve been so tempted lately to pick up some small ones, to play around with.
I have a good handful of ideas of what I may do with them!

  5. SH Says:

I’d rather take the Launchpad than the white thingy.

  6. rastagandalf Says:

@SH: I’d take both, but the white thingy is also ok 😀

  7. Derek Says:

I was just curious.. can you win the Contest more than once? (I’d be happy to win once, but just curious 🙂

  8. Alan Parekh Says:

    Hi Derek,

You can enter each Name the Thing Contest once but you can enter and have a chance of winning every contest.

Man, I hope I win this one! 😀

There are a surprising number of uses for these things.
There will probably be alot of entries, but that is a tempting prize.

    Peace.

How is everybody getting their MSP430 Launchpad? I ordered mine a month ago, then two days later they emailed me to say it was on backorder, and I haven’t heard from them since >:(

  18. Steven Blaser Says:

I was sure I knew what this little thing was when I saw the picture. Items similar are in many of the insturments found at the place I work.
