Train Whistle Doorbell

at 7:43 pm. Filed under Electronic Hacks, Funny Hacks

If you are looking for a doorbell that you can hear from anywhere in your house have a look at this Train Whistle Doorbell by Pete Mills. He has hacked into a cheap wireless doorbell system for activation. Have a look at the video on his site for the explosive result when it is activated! Pete has a schematic on his site if you want to see how it ticks.

“Circuit wise, this doorbell came with an led on the front that blinks when the bell is activated. So, when I was designing the circuit in my head, thinking I would have to tap into the circuit board to get a logic signal; turns out I could just make a simple circuit to ‘watch’ the led; a photo transistor with a 10k pulldown works a treat.”

I want one…or seven. Would definitely make a statement with my neighbors that tend to blast the surround at 2:00 AM

  2. Paul Says:

    Awesome 🙂
I’d want to put on a 2min repeat delay to stop someone continuously pressing the button

  3. Tachikoma Says:

Nono, you put the whistle right where to button is… people will think twice to press it again after the first experience.

  4. Pete Says:

Jeremy: one is genuinely painful if you don’t wear ear defenders.

Paul: I have a small delay 5 seconds I think to stop repeat presses but you are right; blocking repeat presses is a good idea.

  5. Paul Says:

Very nice work Pete, looks (& sounds) like a great idea 🙂

  6. Tachikoma Says:

Pete, any chance of re-recording the video far away for a better sound?

  7. Pete Says:

I will try to retake the video today or tomorrow. Probably outside.

  8. Tachikoma Says:

    cool, thanks!
