How to Hack someones Wi-Fi Connection

at 2:04 pm. Filed under Complex Hacks, Computer Hacks

I don’t condone hacking someones Wi-Fi connection but rather learn from what can be done to protect your own connection. Darren from Hak5 shows us how with a bit of hardware and some software you can easily get in the middle of peoples Wi-Fi connections. Darren isn’t using his WiFi Pineapple shaped tool anymore but they are still available. I had never heard about Airdrop-ng before, it reminds me of the cell phone jammers that we have seen before but instead of cell phones, it disconnects Wi-Fi connections!

RoBo Blower – Remote Controlled Snow Blower

You might remember the  Snow Removal Robot that we featured here last year. Well now there’s another snow blower to add to the snow removal automation list. The RoBo Blower is a remote controlled snow blower that allows you to remove all the snow you want from the comfort of your living room.

Thanks Chip.

“Herb Spencer is the inventor of The RoBo Blower. He is a master tinkerer and gadgeteer. His passion is all things electro-mechanical. If it has moving parts or passes electrons, Herb loves to tinker with it, fix it, tear it apart and put it back together, or simply repurpose it for his own needs. Often in creative and whimsical ways.”

Voice Controlled Robotic Helicopter

at 5:09 pm. Filed under Complex Hacks, Computer Hacks, Electronic Hacks, Insane Equipment

This Voice Controlled Robotic Helicopter is quite interesting. You can speak English commands and it follows your instructions. I need that system in my car, I could get so much work done if I didn’t have to do all the time consuming driving.

“We recently got the system working on a quadrotor helicopter.  We extended the topological map to 3d, added some orientation commands like “Face the windows,”  and shot some videos of it flying around the Stata Center!”

Nicholas and Felice were featured on Make for some new items that they have in the Makers Market. For those who haven’t heard about the Makers Market you should check it out. I am looking into setting up a store there to sell a few geeky things that I have been thinking about. Looks like Nicholas is also a fan of  TWIT TV, a network that Leo Laporte created and Revision 3.  Have a look at the process he went through to create these cool looking TWIT pins.

Digital TTL Clock

Kenneth Finnegan who shared his DIY Binary Clock Build with us has made another clock. This time it’s a Digital TTL Clock. This design brings back memories of college when I had to design a mock photocopier circuit that allowed the entry of number of copies and decremented the number till it was down to zero. I also used 7 segment displays and the same driver chip. I have to admit that I’m sure glad there are more powerful ways to solve the problem these days. He has a schematic that shows how he generates his 1 Hz clock pulse from a 32.768 KHz crystal oscillator. Watch the video below for a full walkthrough of the circuit.

“Once divided down to 1Hz, the rest of the clock is simply a matter of counting seconds, minutes, and hours, and displaying them.  The seconds stage consists of nothing more than a 74160 divide-by-10 and a 7493 wired as a divide-by-6, which feed a pair of 7447 BCD to seven segment decoders for display.  The 7493 normally divides by 16, but I used a 7408 AND gate between the 2 and 4 output lines, such that when the counter (which signifies the tens of seconds digit) reaches six, the AND gate goes high, resets the counter, and pulses the carry line to the minutes stage.”

Phone Recorder

Our friend Muris from elektronika.ba has sent in his latest project. It is a Phone Recorder that records all phone conversations in the entire house. There is also no need to turn it on or off, it monitors the phone line and starts recording as soon as a phone is picked up. It stores all of the conversations in MP3 format for easy storage or review. There is an archive available with schematics and code just in case you would like one for your house.

“How does it work?
The hardware-part consists of:
– audio pickup circuit
– phone line status monitor
– microcontroller to send the phone-line state to PC using USB (serial<->usb)”
