Scarecrow by Contech – Motion Activated Sprinkler

Hacked Gadgets went to Island Tech 2009 which was on Vancouver Island British Columbia Canada to check on the technology that was being demonstrated. Contech was there showing some of their products, the Scarecrow was by far the most interesting. It isn’t a new product but the way it was hooked up for demonstration was interesting. There was no source of city water like there would be in your back yard so they had a sealed dome around the sprayer and a pump that would produce the pressure needed to operate the device. Simple yet effective. This is a great system that can be mass produced however I still like the WaterHobo that we featured a few years ago, too bad this system would be costly to produce.

    How is it too costly?

    Hi Oler,

It is $100 CDN. Here is the link that is in the article to the price. They have resellers so I would think you could find it cheaper if you looked around a bit on the web.

I built one years ago to keep raccoons out of my trash. I didn’t have a water supply nearby so I used a small garden pump sprayer as a water source. I connected it to a 12volt sprinkler valve which was turned on by a proximity sensor I had from an old car alarm. It was nice because I could move it to any location. All I had to do was fill it with water, pump it up to pressure and connect the battery.
