What is better than a plain old huge TV? One that is huge and mobile! Watch the video that shows this mobile unit being setup. I totally want to rent this Big TV Truck to watch a movie in my back yard. Only problem is that the truck would not fit! This is a perfect example of build it and hope there is demand for it. I might have to settle for this one. |

The screen will be (at best) SD I’m sure, so the image will be big, but low-res, so the only place to watch it from is far enough back for it to appear smooth…in which case you’re better off at home!
What units like this are great for, and what I really like about this one in particular, is that it combines an OB truck with a stage and display truck, the idea being for a small event (a few thousand people, say) you can get a stage and OB in a tiny footprint and rigged very quickly (relatively). I have worked on stadium shows that take 2 weeks to rig, whereas this looks like you could be in and out the same day, near enough.
For those that care, the vision mixer looks like one of the newer ones with a tiny footprint but very little direct control. They suit this kind of big-screen gig, but without more m/e’s you’d not want to use it for a TV show, for instance. 8-channels, so probably suits 4-5 cameras plus 2 video server channels (for keys or VT packages) and black. The sound desk would only really suit a small show, and you wouldn’t use it for front-of-house sound for anything but the smallest band playing sound from CD, but fine to mix a show to tape if you’re recording the video edit too. As if any of you care…

Like said it’s completely ridiculous that we get to see it partially extended for 3s, and never in operation. I’d even say it’s suspicious ;P. According to the info on the site the biggest screen (they have several) is made of 1cm square pixels, and measures 896x512cm. That’s not too bad for an LED display, but not HD as they state. It looks made for small events, an all-in-one package with video, audio and even the stage expanding from the truck, ready in 20 minutes.

I am familiar with these large format touring systems.. I mainly dealt with the Stageline series from Canada.. I am trained on all of the prtable staging systems, they are hydraulically operated from hand stations like above.. the SAM 555 a 50′x38′with a 32′ rigging roof that you can hang up to 29 tons in various configurations from.. setup in 4-5 hours and with a full weatherproof windwall around the back and sides. Anywhere you can dream of dropping it in at we did it. The video wall as we called them were very useful in direct sun and for it’s setup time and stability as it is not really bothered by the elements like a projector and screen. they are heavy and use a lot of power saw a few draw 500A 3phase (actually draw not just rating) for a 2 hour show, but still the goto in large production work.. The HD banks are slowly emerging as the high power leds became cheaper, it took a while as people were slow to dump their million dollar investments in their other systems..

I maybe 2 years too late but there is a short clip in this video of the screen in action, its a outdoor Mitsubishi led screen 46msq and still there is nothing to beat it for picture quality or reliability on a outdoor mobile, also one of the few led screens that has an excellent picture in full sun, this is where your cheaper screens and projectors will not cope .
