DIY Paper Record Player

at 5:16 am. Filed under DIY Hacks

This one minute video above demonstrates how you can make a Paper Record Player with only a piece of construction paper, a needle and some tape. It is so interesting to see how simple the pressed record technology actual is. Now compare that to CD and DVD technology, you need a ton of tech to make heads or tails of the tiny pits that are burnt into those! Interested in how those vinyl records are made? Watch the two videos below to learn all the steps involved in the process.

Holy christ, that first video made me cringe.

I did this when I was a kid, and it’ll work great, but for the love of your vinyl collection, if you are going to experiment on your records, do it on one you don’t care about. A steel needle damages the vinyl grooves far more than the standard diamond-tipped record player head (which also has shock and pressure absorbing features, and the arm is designed to rest lightly on the record).

What he said… I’d cry if someone did that to my records.

Wow, that was amazing! I always wondered how they were made.

I never realised a standard needle would actually work.
