Install all of the electronics into the box The power supply didn’t quite fit, The side rail needed to be shaved a bit so make room for it. I had a nice large heat sink handy, a grinder was used to take off a few fins that were in the way when connected to the motor controllers. A piece of MDF was bolted to the floor of the case to allow all of the components and terminal blocks to be installed easily. A section of the power supply case was used to make a cable connection panel. This panel also has a separate fuse for each axis and also has an LED that indicates that the fuse is OK. As mentioned before there will be some additional items installed but the temperature sensor has been taped to the heat sink to allow easy monitoring of the temperature. The temperature used to climb a bit before the small muffin fan was installed on the heatsink.

Some nice work on modding that case. I’ve been pondering taking the plunge with the same machine, and am still on the fence. Looking forward to seeing more of this series.

Very nice work on the case mod, lots and lots of room to lay everything out.
The MDF base inside the case is a neat trick that I’ll exploit in the future.
I especially like the cable/fuse/LED panel canabalized from a power supply.

I was going to mount everything to the metal directly at first but I am glad that I used the MDF since I didn’t have to worry about the drill bit skating around and it is nice and non-conductive!

Hi Alexander,
You can get the motors from Probotix or from another company since the motor mounts are a common size. I ordered the the yellow motor kit with mine and am very happy with them. Here is a link that shows you all the options at the bottom of the page.

You do need some software to get going. You basically need some design software that will let you design the part you want to make and another program that will control the CNC machine when it cuts the piece. There are lots of options here, everything from free to thousands.

Hi, is this only for the 3 axis steppmotor or for the spindlemotor too? When you have or can build a wiring diagram for a spindlemotor with 90v dc and 3 amps you would make me very happy! the input is 230v. Thanks Max
