Porsche Panamera delivered to 94th Floor of Shanghai World Financial Center

at 1:57 pm. Filed under Funny Hacks, What Were They Thinking

We all hate moving. I can still remember moving a huge metal desk up two flights of stairs when I was living in an apartment. Ever opening from doors to hallways seen to shrink and all of your furniture seems to be twice the size you remembered. What would you do if you were hired to get a Porsche Panamera up to the 94th floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center? I would be thinking that we have an excellent main floor space available that would accommodate the car and event just wonderfully. This team built a special rig that was able to push and tilt the car upright into a freight elevator. They were successful in pulling it off but I wonder if the car is fine after standing vertical for that long, would oil not leak into places that it should not be?

the oil getting into odd places isn’t a problem.

standard procedure for storing a car includes overfilling the crank case with oil and adding an ounce or so directly into each cylinder so things don’t sieze. when coming out of storage, after draining and replacing the fluids, it will smoke a little bit for a short while, but will run good as new in no time.

I am more concerned how the lift carried that much.

The real question is why? O.o

When I was in High school a few buddies and myself took a (very unliked) teacher’s Honda Civic and placed it on top of the main auditorium (bout 5 floors high) we did this by disassembling the car in the parking lot and reassembling it on the roof. it took us about 11 hours start to finish. that said, im wondering whether or not it would have been easier and/or cheaper to dis/reassemble the car and transport it like that. course i dont know if there would have been any cultural quams about my idea though

    Hey Kevinthor,

That sounds like a a real over the top prank. You see that stuff in the movies but I didn’t think anyone would have pulled it off in real life. 🙂 How did the car get taken down? Anyone get caught?

When you are going to tilt a car at those angles.. the first thing to do it remove the oil and gas… not to mention the regulatory requirements of bringing a car into a skyscraper. After all .. its not like your gonna drive it around the 94th floor.

The Porsche Panamera is just under 4000lbs curb weight. A freight elevator can EASILY lift 2 tons (hell, the elevator in my office building is rated from 3500 lbs and it’s not considered a freight elevator).

  10. Steve Says:

Only need to worry about oil leaks if the Porsche is being built in England.

I was asked to post the details of my Highschool prank so here I go 😛
I have heard of at least two other similar pranks and thats where i got the idea. The best part is it wasn’t found for almost 3 weeks!!!! as far as being caught, there was a rumor that the ringleader was a student from one of the autotech classes (me, of course) but i just just played dumb about the whole thing 🙂 I did believe ,though, that the teacher had a STRONG feeling that I was involved lol. I never found out how they got it down though, i’d think they would havehad to take it apart and rebuild it because i dont think they would have had much of a choice (not like there just happened to be a crain nearby lol…..cause i would have used that myself lol ) Grease Monkies FTW!!!! lol….. course I read an article a few weeks back about some engineering students (or somthing) suspending a car from a bridge (literally, the car is hanging from the bridge by a cable. so their stunt beat mine…….”I call them fightin werdz” >:-} I dont think i have ever tried anything of that caliber, but im up for a challenge.

    Thanks for your time,

LOL, that’s great Kevinthor! I love the fact that 3 weeks went by before it was discovered. 🙂
