How To Connect a Wiimote to your computer using Bluetooth

at 11:17 am. Filed under Computer Hacks, Game Hacks

Luke (The Uber Maker) had written a good article that goes through the basics of connecting a Wiimote to a computer so that you can capture the data from the Wiimote buttons and movement so that it can be used as desired on your computer.

"Most people don’t know that the Wiimote communicates with the Wii via a Bluetooth wireless link. The Bluetooth controller is a Broadcom 2042 chip, which is designed to be used with devices which follow the Bluetooth Human Interface Device (HID) standard, such as keyboards and mice. The Bluetooth HID is directly based upon the USB HID standard, and much of the same documentation applies. The Wiimote is capable of transmitting huge amounts of data to the Wii (Nintendo just isn’t utilizing it’s capabilities thus far). But using the internal Bluetooth wireless link, you can connect your Wiimote to your PC (any OS), and use it with a wide range of applications already made for the Wiimote."

Everyone knows this already. What’s worth writing about is the range of interesting things you can do with it, such as using it as a game controller or a remote for your media player. Especially when combined with a charging stand, that lets you have it running 24/7, it’s pretty awesome.
