Teamcynergy has come up with a Laser Beam activated Paintball Gun. It is constructed using a Parallax Basic Stamp kit purchased at Radio Shack. This project truly demonstrates that you don’t need tons of equipment to build something that is very interesting.
“Watch as this machine gun senses someone in its path using laser and fires relentlessly when an object crosses its path. Watch the making of on www.teamcynergy.com to learn how this machine gun was made using a basic stamp2 microcontroller, photoresitor, laser and a Tipman X7 Flatline Paintball Marker using Egrip with 3 round burst to fully automate the response trigger.”
Thanks Alexander

Thanks for the article. I posted it to our news section at http://www.teamcynergy.com/News/team_cynergy_paintball_gun_featured_on_hackedgadgetscom_11_25_2007.aspx

Cool! I wanna make one of those!
But….
Did he say ‘Capacitator’?? and also, the middle wire is not ground in the servo.

Overall I thought the circuit description was quite good considering this was probably his first microcontroller project. Yes he did say capacitator. I think that is similar to a capacitor.
I love to see people jump feet first into complex electronic projects and pull it off. The cardboard box servo mount was very creative also!

Yes this was my first electonics project. I have been informed that the center wire is the Power and not the ground… What is the Capacitor comment about? was something else off??
November 26th, 2007
Hi Alexander,
Not a big deal, it is just your pronunciation of capacitor. I butcher lots of words all the time so you are in good company.

No worries… I am glad he said something because I probably would have continued to call it a “capacitator” instead of a capacitor.
For a first timer, its bound to happen. Trial and error thats how we learn. And if we never recognize our errors, we will never learn.
To pick this kit up, read the book, install the sofware, learning a new programming language, build with my first electronics board, and program a microcontroller to control a servo and use a laser as a switch/trip wire, all in one night, with no assistance is something I can be proud of, even if I did have a few mishaps along the way
