The item to guess was a Spark Gap Tube, there are many uses for it, have a look at the site for more details. Congratulation to the people who guessed it correctly. I tried to make this one really hard and I was amazed at how many people got it!!!

The winner is Kevin D.

Thanks to all who entered.

awwwww nuts. I mean damn! I knew that thing and what it is used for the moment I saw it… on the 13th of August. One day too late!

Damn.. Um.. can I say what it is? Or still not allowed to?

  8. Alan Parekh Says:

It will officially be announced tomorrow but since the contest entries are all done, sure feel free to put up your guess. :)

  9. Craig Says:

I bet there were a few that were thrown off a little by the text printed on it.

  10. Lance GreathouseL Says:

    X-Ray Tube?

  11. Kevin Says:

@craig, yeah bedix used to manufacture dosimeters and geiger counters.

To find out what this is, you have to look closely what is in the C of “radioactive” (in the picture); well more exactly what isn’t

  12. john Says:

ha, i just figured it out….lol….and wouldnt you know i did it after the contest is over

  13. Craig Says:

Kevin, You’re right. I didn’t think anyone else would notice that. Good eye.

  14. Alan Parekh Says:

    Winner announced.

  15. NGinuity Says:

Yeah that goes back a little further than me :-)

  16. Kevin Says:

    yeah :) it required a lot of googling before i see the “gap”;
the first one i found was http://www.tubecollector.org/tg24.htm (bigger gap, but pretty much the same tube)

Alan, could we get some stats for this one?

  17. Alan Parekh Says:

    Hey Kevin,

There were only 39 entries for this one, I think that shows how hard it was… About 30% of them were correct.
