This steam punk watch is functional and is guaranteed to attract some attention. It looks like you may only want to wear it for a few hours at a time though… |

Coathangers =! steampunk

is coat hanger wire safe to wear?
July 30th, 2007
Not reason I shouldn’t be safe, assuming there are no super intelligent, radioactive waste covered ants on it

99% of Coat hangars are coated wire. Some are coated with some really nasty varnish that are toxic when heated and exposed to moisture.
As in, your skin.
You’d be better off buying similar-gauge aluminum wire from some online retailer. Or brass wire. Or anything other than coat hangars.

Aluminum? Turn your skin black, that aluminum oxide isn’t much better for you, then brass tarnishes

Brass tarnishes in the most fantastic way. Exactly what you’d want in a Steampunk item.
And you can anodize AL. Super easy, and not only that you can make it whatever color you want.

I’m disappointed. Awesome steampunk watch; aaaaand flip-flops on the feet. They could at least be made of wire hangers, or something. And be hydraulic.

It seems that people have a problem with a core aspect of Steampunk, that it’s set in the Victorian era and that they made things that look classy. This watch just looks like it came from a futuristic sci-fi novel, not 100 years ago.
