Inside the iPhone CPU

at 6:53 am. Filed under Electronic Hacks, Insane Equipment

Our friend Nick Chernyy from uBlog has got his hands on an Apple iPhone and worked his magic to get a shot of the CPU wafer image.

“The chip contains both the ARM CPU and the RAM, three dies to be exact. The CPU had what looked to be a model number and the RAM chips had what looked to be part of a model number on the cut-away part of the die. No visible logos or slogans on these chips.”

Interesting to see their metal-fill for CMP in some of the shots. I wrote an MU fill tool at the company that I used to work for (got laid off) so it’s neat to see what it actually looks like once fabbed.
