Wood iPod

at 10:14 am. Filed under Crazy Hacks, Funny Hacks, What Were They Thinking

Most of us have seen the wood iPod that Zap Wizard created. His iPod still looks like an iPod, just different than the version that you would see in the store. Tim sent in this 2X4 wood iPod hack that takes it to the next level! Inside the block of wood pictured is a fully functional iPod Shuffle. The site has been updated, looks like the device is non-functional.

    Watch out for those iSplinters

Um, after the jump it says “each 2×4pod is a unique non-functional object”, and notes a low, low price of $199 each. Don’t say nuthin’ about no Nano inside. Alan, I think you been gamed here, dude!

FWIW, I will be happy to make a “unique non-functional” 2×4Pod in _cherry_ for $99!

Thanks for the heads up Marty, the site must have been updated after it was featured here…

And have you seen the sculptures further down the page? it looks like sone one smashed up their keyboard, took a blowtorch to it, and finally puked all over it.

    Good price though, only $500………..

Well, mister creator, looks like the masses have spoken. To paraphrase the frenchman in Monty Pyton and the Holy Grail, we (f)art in your general direction!

  12. servant74 Says:

Sounds like you could have a whole bunch of ‘em pretty easily from an iPlank!

  13. Andrew Says:

No offense, but the 2nd design looks like crap. The first one, where you could still tell it was an iPod was unreal and very very well done. The second one is clearly poorly put together, poorly cut holes, and still has glue coming out of the seems. $199 for a cover that anyone can put together for $1 is bullshit, the first one is well worth a good chunk of money (still not $199, maybe $50-$75) but is a lot better.

  14. Marty Says:

Andrew, please read.. more.. carefully. The one by Zap Wizard is indeed a wooden cover for an iPod. The _thing_ shown above is (slow down now) .. just .. a .. piece .. of .. wood. No iPod inside. No electronics inside. It’s does not function in any way. Unless you can bring yourself to assign it some artistic function, which I do not. I can go along with “form follows function”. This one is just FORM, with no function. A mockup. A dummy. Which is the same thing I would call an individual who ponied up any greenbacks for any of the items created by the above person. (Who may or may not be the Tim that passed Alan this fraud-as-art item.

(Gimme a couple of days and I’ll, um, produce something equally functional. Have to make a mold first.)

  15. Michael Garrett Says:

That looks about as useful as the original iPod shuffle by itself
