SwiMP3 Underwater MP3 Player

at 6:24 am. Filed under Cool Gadgets, What Were They Thinking

In the latest edition of Business 2.0 magazine there is an article about a company that is making underwater MP3 players. It is called the SwiMP3, I was expecting it to use something like watertight headphones or something simple like that. Well it actually uses bone conduction to play the music by vibrating your skull! Nothing is in your ears, instead the system uses cheek pads to get the vibrations into your head. Not into water sports? Check out the Bonephones research project then.

“I’ve always loved music. It really motivates me when my workouts shift to the stair climber, my bike or the treadmill. So I looked high and low to find a way to bring my favorite music to the pool, and finally enjoy every lap.

Then, I found this small company in California that specializes in aquatic training and performance. They came up with the most ingenious solution to boring workouts. It’s called the SwiMP3.

Imagine listening to hours of your own music during your swim workout. Laps go faster and workouts are more pleasurable. The SwiMP3’s innovative sound transfer technology offers exceptional underwater sound quality. The SwiMP3 player (pronounced “Swim-P-3″) allows you to hear the same high quality music while you’re in the water that you love to hear on dry land.”

nice, but I’d rather just have the music play outside of the water, instead of having to buy a special mp3 player.

This is SO old that version2 of this mp3 player is now out (see the website). This dispenses with the large bulky unit on the back of your head.
