In the latest edition of Business 2.0 magazine there is an article about a company that is making underwater MP3 players. It is called the SwiMP3, I was expecting it to use something like watertight headphones or something simple like that. Well it actually uses bone conduction to play the music by vibrating your skull! Nothing is in your ears, instead the system uses cheek pads to get the vibrations into your head. Not into water sports? Check out the Bonephones research project then. Then, I found this small company in California that specializes in aquatic training and performance. They came up with the most ingenious solution to boring workouts. It’s called the SwiMP3. Imagine listening to hours of your own music during your swim workout. Laps go faster and workouts are more pleasurable. The SwiMP3’s innovative sound transfer technology offers exceptional underwater sound quality. The SwiMP3 player (pronounced “Swim-P-3″) allows you to hear the same high quality music while you’re in the water that you love to hear on dry land.”

nifty, I saw this on Daily Planet a while back

nice, but I’d rather just have the music play outside of the water, instead of having to buy a special mp3 player.

Excellent(sarcasm) placement of the controls. Very weak.

This is SO old that version2 of this mp3 player is now out (see the website). This dispenses with the large bulky unit on the back of your head.

how would you be able todo anything the freaking controls are on the back of your head, you don’t know what you’ll press??!?!?!?!

No REAL swimmer wears their cap over their ears! The controls on the back…not such a genius idea.

I don’t know what kind of swimmers you know but keeping the cap from covering the ears is silly, will only cause more drag.

Hey Douches, this is for practice. nobody is telling you to wear it when you’re in olympic trials looking for the best possible time and reduced drag. It works and it’s a cool little device. Sound is OK, but not high fidelity. I like it and it makes an hour in the pool fly.

Oh yeah, and with 128-256 MB, are you really going to be switching through a bunch of songs? who cares, pick some songs you like and SWIM!
