USB Art

at 5:41 am. Filed under Funny Hacks

Dialog05 has put together a great USB art collection. My favorite is the belt, I could even see that at Think Geek…

“USB, an abbreviation for a technical user interface, is nowadays often used as a synonym for a universal connection. originally only used by computer experts and nerds, this so-called former high-tech standard has developed into an every-day item and low-tech symbol for such universal connections.

this is an example of technology being clearly understood and accepted by the general public. something democratic evolves and develops and therefore often even receives a totally different usage than was originally intended. given the current, often exotic use of USB, it would even be argued that there is a ‘USB subculture’!

this phenomena inspired us to use the USB interface, with all its possibilities and ambiguities as a medium for this project. we created installations, objects and products that are surprising, enlightening, inspiring and questioning, and on the other hand ironic or even amusing.”

    LOL@USB-Belt

I used to do that ALL the time at my old job! We had hundreds (if not thousands) of cables laying all over the place, and I would frequently forget my belt at home.

Grab a USB cable, slip it through the belt loops, do a square-knot and sham-zam! You got yourself the geekiest pants-holder-upper this side of the zip-tie belt–that I’ve also done!

Why hasen’t anybody done up a 2″ wide nylon zip-tie that is releasable as a belt? I’d wear it.

I recently saw something on Youtube where you plugged what looked to be a toy dog into the usb port on your computer and he started humping it.

I remember stumbling on this site a while ago and wondering how long until the belts went into production. Not that it would take any major effort to make them. & you could hang your thumb drive collection from it.
