    Hi

I too purchased this model, the 8GB version for my daughter, got it on eBay, lasted all of one day then got “cyclic redundancy error” when transferring a bunch of mp3 files. I now have a sand-timer on the unit and Win XP does not recognise device and keeps asking for driver files update. I suspect that the flash RAM has corrupted the firmware. Does anybody have the original firmware and/or know of a software flash to USB utility for this model?

Any feedback would be appreciated, please reply to gordon@maxwellclanonline.net

    Cheers

i too have had simular problems have xp worked for one day and now stuck with hour glass.
also xp refuses to connect to it.
also 8 gb version shame really

  6. Faust Says:

I just bought one of these, it lasted a day, now you can’t talk to it. Does anyone know how to reset the software, or get newer firmware?
    Cheers

  7. Jim Says:

I just bought one of these. The memory is hacked which is the reason for all the errors. It reads 8 GB but it is not accurate. If you put less than 100 songs on it then its fine and after that it gets confused. I used the formatting tool that came with it to add a partition, then to delete the partition and now it reads at the true size. Less than 512mb of memory is actually in these “8 GB” players

  8. Hexypoo Says:

Well other than the hard drive issues it looks like it would be a pretty slick little toy to have.

  9. Jason Says:

bought one too - battery lasted about 2 minutes after charging all night with supplied adapter. not looking forward to the memory problems after I get the battery problem taken care of.

  10. Jason Says:

update: charged all day using computer usb port, still won’t operate for longer than 2 minutes.
also, winXP does indicate 8gigs of ram, but Jim says it’s hacked? if i find out there is in fact only 512mb i’m swimming to hong kong and shoving this thing up someone’s nose. i need a stress-relieving vacation :)

  11. Dr.Cyco Says:

I think I got the same 8gb. 2nd time in my life I got something on ebay. So far I have managed to access the small 512 mb hdd (though when I first turned it on it showed 8 gb) I am looking into something to try and get the missing 8gb, or at least have something better than a 512 flash disk with tetris on it. Man, my blackberry is better.
I am going to try and start a support group on that at www.drcyco.com

  12. Joe Says:

How much did Apple pay all of to write this stuff. I have two and they work just fine.

I guess people with nothing else better to do just complain.

  13. Jason Says:

Gee Joe, I wish I had been paid off by Apple. But alas, no cheque. I’m just stuck with a piece of crap colour photo of an hourglass and no support. THEIR CRAP JOE. If your’s works then you must be a charmed man - go buy a lotto ticket.

  14. David Says:

I have read about the problems you had with your Nano clones. And, to be brief, problems such as yours and similar, does occur when one fails to software shut down their clone first. These clones are very sensitive, and if you saw the example of the man who demonstrated a clone in the Youtube video - you may have notice how he switched his clone off directly using the power switch. This is very very bad. One must first hold the “play” button down for 5 seconds, before the clone’s software shuts itself down (just as in a normal computer), before one uses the “power” switch to turn the clone off. Failure to do this damages the hardware and creates a whole heap of problems. I have had this problem before, and it led me to having to reformat the flash drive. For those of you who want to know how to deal with other similar problems, then you must acknowledge that you will have to reformatting your clone. This will mean deleting all the media that is on your clone’s drive. The embedded software which gives you your user interface experience will remain intact. Right click on My Computer then left mouse click on Manage -> Storage -> Disk Management -> Action -> Rescan disks. Then obey any alert or dialog you read as appropriate.

  15. Jason Says:

I’m very very VERY careful to always shut down USB devices correctly before unplugging them, as well as shutting down all software driven devices as the manuals usually indicate. Funny thing, (well not really funny) the manual doesn’t say anything to this effect. Why put a hard pwr switch on the top of the thing that could potentially damage the device? Especially without including a warning on the back. Back to my original comment - the thing is CRAP. Such a sensitive system should never ever be released into the public at any price. I’m no rocket scientist, but I’m not exactly an idiot either. User friendly devices are the order of the day, and this is NOT by ANY means user friendly. Stick with a Sandisk or other product or, just go for the iPod.

  16. Rae Says:

I bought a 2gb clone. the rule of thumb is any thing advertised over 2 gb is fake. This is because cheap Japan makers can only afford one or two ram chips. so any thing over is fake. Mine worked i am actually very pleased. the 2gb is real, movies look o.k. at best. but i am always cautious of using a 120$ mp3 player when i skateboard so this thing is good, and very slim too.

  17. ashley_rb Says:

Becareful. 2GB 4GB 8GB clones from china can have hacked memory. Read more about the hacked memory scam at http://search.ebay.ca/_W0QQsassZhackedmemoryscam. The scam is huge on eBay.

  18. Jason Says:

…or just read about it above in this post!

  19. Teresa Says:

I got a ipod nano and will never shop on ebay international again. It will cost me 50.00 just to mail it back, with a tracking on it. people in china selling this FAKE stuff is just hurtting their country. used it one time now an hour glass wont leave the screen!!! call em copy cats!

  20. maks Says:

    hi Teresa,

Same problem with me also.have you fopund out a solution if yes let me know.
What ‘14. David’ said applies to my case…if anyone finds out a solution please let us know.

  21. Jason Says:

    I have a solution:
    Buy an IPOD.

  22. haz Says:

i bought this ipod clone in china. but my battery doesnt seem to be charging. is the adaptor provided a factor? by the way, is there suppposed to have an animated blinking of the battery when charging? someone pls reply.

  23. Jason Says:

give it up. it’s a piece of shit. the adapter does NOT charge the battery regardless of power button position, despite the poorly direct-translated manual suggesting the power button be switched on. the only way i was able to charge the battery was by usb. actually, the unit is just a glorified battery holder/charger. it kinda’ works as a flashlight - you get a glowing hourglass from the screen. a decent mp3/4 player it is not. since i purchased this item, and the whole lead paint thing i’ve not knowingly bought anything from china again.
    get an ipod.

  24. Omar Says:

These things will straight up die. My uncle got me one of these, 1GB, green for $28 from this one merchant. The flash is messed up, and the batteries are absolutely terrible. Mine will only last for about 40 minutes at optimum charge. JUST GO AND BUY A SANSA 512MB FOR LIKE $40. THIS IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.

  25. raezor Says:

I have two of these units that will only display the hour glass when switched on , xp will not recognise them , So am unable to acces the memory to reset or whatever , seems a real shame as they worked pretty well untill this; Has anyone discovered a fix as yet?? please reply if you have..

  26. bob Says:

i fixed mine once when it gave me the hourglass. put it on the charger for 4 hours then take it off. hold the menu and it should reset it

  27. ianux1 Says:

Hair dryer for 20 seconds then turn it on, it will stop being stuck on the hourglass, that what i did.

  28. Jason Says:

So I should charge it for four hours, then hold the menu button for 60 seconds to reset it, then blow it with a hairdryer. Hmmmmmmmmm………..
I’m with Omar - I absolutely LOVE my Sansa 512mb player. Sounds better than my Sister’s IPOD, headphones sound GREAT too.
    Just say “no” to CHI-PODs.

  29. Jay Says:

Man, what luck I have. Where were you guys before I bought this 8bg 3rd gen ipod nano clone. I got it three days ago ago and it worked fine, until yesterday. I loaded up 150 songs into my player and wanted to add some more so off my friends computer so i hooked it up on his computer and ever since…the HOURGLASS of doom is on the screen on a blue background. Does anyone have any ideas how i can fix this problem? I’ve read the manual and it doesn’t talk about the HOURGLASS on the error page.

  30. mihir Says:

There is no solution for 8gb clone?
best way to utilize it is as pendrive.

  31. vic Says:

    hi,
we need to repair the system files
on the mp3/4. accident it eliminates the system files.
is there a site we can
    go to?
    thanks,
    vicky

  32. Jason Says:

Vic, you need to give it up. Don’t waste your time - really. Seriously. Go outside. Plant some flowers. Then go to Future Shop and purchase a Sansa-anything or if you have to, pay the extra and get an IPod.

  33. Jason Says:

Oh, and tell everyone you know not to buy one of these things. They’re absolute crap :)

  34. Hashan Says:

Well., I guess it depends on how “lucky” you are.

I bought one of these Clones (1 GB actually) just for the Mp3’s and the Radi and HECK !! it’s been working fine and dandy for the last 6 months or so.

It goes through all the “thinkable” harsh treatments such as leaving in the sun till the LCD goes blank, submerging in water, dropping gizzilion times etc…etc….

    but.. it still works :)

    Guess it’s just lucky me

  35. kenshinflyer Says:

I got a 1GB model, and it works for me! Three months running.

I’m inclined to say NO to Chi-pods, but it’s worth around $25, it’s so darn cheap. Half of my little productivity pay well spent…

Vic, you can go to www.mympxplayer.org to get an appropriate firmware.

  36. Jason Says:

Hashan and kenshinflyer, buy lotto tickets QUICK! You are both charmed.

  37. esclusoilcane Says:

no hope:i got a 8gb ipod nano clone, good working for1week,then no battery life.i use it as extèrnal pen drive with average results

  38. Jason Says:

…and, it doesn’t even write well! I barely got mine to write on cement.
