RC Car Laser Lap Counter

at 8:13 am. Filed under Complex Hacks, Computer Hacks, Cool Gadgets, DIY Hacks

Build a laser lap counter for your RC car. In part two of the build you can add a number of IRDA sensors to the project to make it even better!

“The two channel system shown below includes two lasers, two photo transistors, one inch tubing, one inch round tubing (to mount the lasers) and a microcontroller system to tie it all together. The main control board for this system is a ZiLOG MDS-GP Board with a ZiLOG F642 Encore! CPU module. One cool feature of the ZiLOG development kits is the addition of a IRDA transceiver. Now, I can do something useful with my IRDA port on my Palm PDA. This project also include a Palm OS application that is used to “set-up” the track and save lap times.”
