ScanJet Music Hack

at 6:01 pm. Filed under Computer Hacks, DIY Hacks

GanjaTron’s web site has some interesting items on it but the most interesting is his HP ScanJet hack. He found an article by HP that demonstrated an easter egg for the scanner. There is a PlayTune command that allows the user to send commands to the scanner that will move the scanner head in such a way that it produces a sound note! I guess some of the design engineers has some extra time on this project.

“The PLAY TUNE command basically varies the stepping rate of the scanner motor to produce audible frequencies. All it needs is a series of note frequencies and durations previously written to its SCSI buffer. The ScanJetPlay utility resulted from my efforts in trying out this easter egg. Check dis shit out, babee! :^)”

Check out the video!
